Creating the Perfect Home Vibe: A&C Homestore’s Music Sets the Mood for Shopping Success.

The store in Orakei Bay Village is a beautiful space, staffed by a talented and creative team and offering a curated selection of contemporary furniture and home accessories, showcasing the finest in Scandinavian-inspired and modernist design aesthetics from NZ makers and beyond.
To find out how the music they play sets them apart, we sat down with co-owners and sisters-in-law Abbe Vaughan and Kerry Vaughan, two interior enthusiasts with a wealth of experience and passion for what they do.
Kerry and Abbe both know and agree that music is an integral part of the shopping experience. Being licenced by OneMusic NZ, they choose their music carefully to create a welcoming environment that complements their stylish product offerings.
The pair believe that music can greatly impact energy levels and create a more positive shopping experience for their customers.
“We carefully select music to match the mood of the store, whether it's cosy and warm during the winter months or more upbeat music for a busy summer season sale,” says Kerry.
Abbe says that for the most part they play music that creates a comfortable atmosphere. Soft, mellow tunes complement their warm, earthy décor and make you feel relaxed, and she adds,
Music not only enhances the mood of the store, but it encourages inspiration. When customers are walking past the store, we hope the music will invite them in and entice them to look around and feel at home.
Some of the genres they play include indie, electronic, and pop, and they love to feature local artists. When the store teams were asked to share their favourite tunes, a list of the best included NZ music picks from popular artists like LAB, Teeks, Aldous Harding, and Lorde, as well as Coterie and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
We also spoke with director Damian Vaughan, Abbe’s husband, and Kerry’s brother, who knows the importance of having a licence through OneMusic. With more than 20 years of experience in the music industry, he previously held senior positions in the industry most recently as CEO of Recorded Music New Zealand and was right there at the beginning of OneMusic NZ. Damian says,
